Te Mata Cheese scoops nine medals at cheese awards 8 March 2007
Te Mata Cheese Company scooped nine medals at the prestigious 2007 Cuisine Champions of Cheese Awards.
The Hawke’s Bay cheese producer won gold medals for its Kidnappers Traditional Brie, Bay View Creamy Blue, and Te Mata Creamy Blue.
Silver medals were awarded to three of Te Mata Cheese Company’s cheeses - Irongate washed rind brie style cow’s milk cheese, Port Ahuriri strong blue, and Te Mata Goat’s Milk brie.
The company also collected three bronzes for its Pakipaki and Mt Erin brie style cheeses, both made from goat’s milk, as well as its Summerlee goat curd cheese.
Te Mata Cheese Company founder Karryn Bish is thrilled with the result.
“It’s particularly pleasing to be awarded nine medals in light of the fact the criteria has been tightened this year to make it much tougher to win medals,” says Karryn.
“In the soft white section only two golds were handed out, and our Kidnappers Traditional Brie won one of them.”
The awards attracted 459 entries from throughout the country, with only 39 gold medals awarded. |
